The issue is not that the Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic mouse is not functioning. Since this is a Microsoft branded product, I would expect that the Mouse and Keyboard Center software would recognize it, correct? This is all information that you should have provided in the initial post, given, as you say, that we have no way of gauging anyone's level of experience and knowledge.

In fact, "clueless novice" is the default assumption here. Also, you must be seeking knowledge from someone who has more of it in this instance than you do, so you should not be surprised or dismayed if reasonable questions are asked. Given your curious attitude, I won't ask if you've attempted to use the mouse on a different computer, as it seems that there might be a hardware issue. Good luck.
